HUPC SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTSIn celebration of the Wilderness Act and the twentieth anniversary of the Utah Wilderness Act, HUPC was invited to be part of the Forest Serviceís programs to commemorate that process and action. Thanks to Joelle Dickson of the Wasatch N. F. for organizing these public events! Margaret Pettis, HUPC board member and LYNX editor, spoke on the intangible values of wilderness on July 19 at the SLC Main Library. Sharing the evening were Wasatch-Cache National Forest Ecologist Wayne Padgett and SLC Mayor Rocky Andersen. In addition, on July 29 HUPC Coordinator Dick Carter spoke to a group gathered in the Logan Ranger District's Guinevah Amphitheater on the history of the Utah Wilderness Act, focusing on the two local areas, the Wellsville Mountains Wilderness and Mt. Naomi Wilderness. On August 10 Dick will speak at 6:00 at the SLC Main Library on the history of the Utah Wilderness Act. Joining Dick will be longtime wilderness activist Alexis Kelner, who will speak and present slides of Wasatch Front Wilderness.
