the HUPC RENDEZVOUS and HOWL!
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2006

Western edge of the High Uintas

• Imagine a quiet Uintas afternoon…
  Perch on the quartzite terrace that drops away into the N. Fork Duchesne River and the forest beyond;
• Draw deep into your lungs the sunny autumn air blanketing the western High Uintas Wilderness;
• Listen to the finches in the pine boughs, the flow of the river, the thousands of far-off voices of
  forest creatures;
• Join the howl, filled with good will for secret, wild places and wolves and wet meadows and goshawk and gentian—our gesture of hope and peace…

This is the culmination of a couple of hours of camaraderie of members, families and friends of the HUPC gathered to share what we have grown in our own gardens, enjoy favorite coffees, juice, cookies, bagels and other treats, then find a sunny wooden spot on a bench in the amphitheater to listen to the 1:00 update on what issues face the High Uintas today. From there, we shall meander to “Howl Ledge.”

Like we affirm in our alerts, in our news-letters, in our hearts… we need you and your wild voice. Wilderness is protected by those who care. If we lose sight of this, we lose wilderness. Won’t you spend a fall afternoon in the Uintas with others who share your love of the wild?

If you have been to a past Rendezvous, we anticipate seeing you again. If you haven’t, we look forward to meeting you! Mirror Lake is about 35 miles east of Kamas on Hwy. 150. Park at the lake lot, cross the outlet, and make your way to the friendly circle of folks at the USFS amphitheater a few hundred feet away. Make new friends, greet old ones, enjoy the food, and learn new things.
