Under our Noses
Poem by Melissa Schussman of Portland, Oregon
Crow
a blueblack brother of dreams
iridescent flash as he flaps
his wings in the sun
flying in legend
like his sisters, the Crowgirls,
who scavenge leftovers
from the dead
but also lead them
to the next fields beyond
and flying out of legend
to scavenge roadsides
for food
as he hops away from wheels
clicking his talons on pavement
and his beak
as he chatters
of our insolence.
